Friendship

Today I'm going to talk about friendship. I truly believe that God places certain people in our lives at particular times to help us get through that specific moment in life.

Our childhood friendships help us explore and discover the world. They help us find joys in make-believe, in play and in innocence. Our high school friendships shape us and change us. They are the ones that help us move from childhood to rebellious teenagers. Its a tough time. Some childhood friends fade but if we're lucky a few will continue the journey with us into the next chapters. High school is filled with ups and downs. Relationships, friendships, come and go. We learn quickly that some can really hurt and some can be really great. We learn the importance of finding out who we can trust and who we can depend on.

College years (or years beyond high school) friendships help us with another transitions. These relationships help us change from teenagers to adults. They are our last journey until we reach adulthood. These friendship are unique in that they again may fade as quickly as the college years go by.. however they may end up being the best friends you ever meet. Again some childhood and high school friendships will come along with you. They will be your cheerleader and your confidant as you travel through the next chapter of life. Unfortunately some won't.. and thats ok. That is life. God puts different people in your lives at different times to help you through whatever it is you are dealing with at that time. I truly believe that.

Then adulthood comes. I believe friendship is the hardest in adulthood but is the most important. This is such a hard time and hard transition for friendship and any relationship. What was once a carefree life with weekends and time to spare.. is now a time that is filled with responsibilities. It is a time with less chances and less opportunities to meet new people.. and unfortunately its a time when most friendships fade. Friendship takes work, it takes dedication, and it takes time. As an adult time can be very hard to find. Children, jobs, chores, and just life gets in the way of what used to be filled with hour long chats, girls night outs, and impromptu dinners or parties. If you are lucky some of those friendship from the earlier journeys will continue to be with you. They will travel through the journeys alongside you - cheering you on, having your back, and they will be a constant in your lives.

The friendships you meet in adulthood will be different. They will be those forever friendships. Of course, like any other chapter, some will come and go.. but most will be there by your side through the hardest chapter yet. They will understand that life is hard, friendship is hard, and both take a lot of work. They will become your tribe, they will be the people you depend on to help when you need that village, they will become the friendships that become family. Alongside those that are still with you throughout all the chapters of this journey .. they will become like family. Family surprisingly will also become friends.

Its ironic..as your grow up.. Friendships become Family and Family become Friends. I truly thank God for each person that has been with me in this journey called life. I am thankful for each friendship that I have made. Some have come and gone, but it doesn't mean that they didnt shape me into the person I am today. Even if we have lost touch and no longer keep in contact, I know they were in my life during that particular time for a reason. They are part of the reason I am where I am today. Each person leaves a footprint in our journey.. some the footprint is larger than others. Thank you God for all the footprints in mine.

I will end today with this prayer:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for all of the amazing people in my life. Thank you for the friends that have become family. Without them, this life would be so lonely. Thank you for the family that have become friends. I appreciate them standing by me through each chapter of life. Thank you Lord for my tribe, my village, and the people in my life. Please Lord be with those that don't feel this way. Please be with those who feel alone in this journey. Please comfort them and let them know that they are never alone, because they have You by their side. This time in life can be lonely Lord. Adulthood is hard. It can also be very isolating. Please be with all those that feel isolated Lord. Help them find peace.
In your name I pray, Amen
